Jay's Technical Insight By Jay Hilton
August 4th 2010 COOLDOME™ Demystified - Cooling, Power and Reliability The Dotworkz COOLDOME™ is a fully sealed camera enclosure with an active cooling system and room to integrate an analog or IP camera and vital accessories in one easy to install enclosure. The COOLDOME™ series allows for a dry, dust free, reliable housing, ensuring all components inside function at their ideal operating temperatures. The COOLDOME™ not only extends the useful operating temperature range by creating an internal temperature in the housing cooler than the outside environment, but also extends the integrated components' lifespans by keeping each of their working parts cooler over their operating life. The cooler is thermostatically controlled with preset factory on/off set points, to turn on only when warmer inside temperatures exist, and uses fused outputs to further protect your vital integrated electronics.
The cooling systems on these enclosures are based on low voltage 12 VDC or 24 VDC enclosure voltages. At the heart is a solid state electronics cooler, so there are no pumps to fail, or liquids to leak out, or maintain. This cooler is assisted by high reliability, high output fans to create higher cooler efficiencies in removing exhaust waste heat, and distribute cooling on the inside cold sink. The inside "cooler" sink is completely sealed off from the outside elements, thus no outside air exchange within the enclosures camera bay, making it an ideal solution for sandy desert deployments, dusty industrial installations, and coastal marine applications. To allow for easy powering, an AC power supply is provided with each COOLDOME™ to step down from line voltages of 120 VAC or 220 VAC. This power supply must be mounted in an indoor location or in a NEMA enclosure, near the COOLDOME™'s location. If desired, your COOLDOME™ can be upgraded with a compact and fully sealed IP67 rated outdoor power supply (sold separately) to run off of source voltages of 100-240VAC. During cooling mode, the cooler "ON" mode, the power at the 12 VDC (or 24 VDC) input is less than that of a 150 watt flood light. During the "OFF" cooler mode, the power draw is less than 2 watts (plus camera & accessories load draw). The COOLDOME™ was originally developed for use on an Egyptian desert deployment. It has since proven itself throughout the world in deployments from the southwestern US, to the Middle East, India, Brazil, and many other extreme climate zones, or in urban, commercial and industrial, and other mission critical deployments.
With the onset of HD camera revolution, the COOLDOME™ series is the perfect solution to protect your valuable investment in warm and hot climates. It is compatible with nearly all brands and models of camera systems, from analog systems to IP surveillance cameras. The COOLDOME™ comes in the D-Series enclosures primarily for PTZ cameras and mini domes, and the S-Type series for brick style camera systems. The D-Series and S-Type models are made of heavy gage and most durable thermoplastic Polycarbonate alloys, to protect your investment from heat, extreme environments, and vandal abuse. Kristin's Business Sense By Kristin Jensen
August 4th 2010 Live Streaming on the Internet in HD!HD Relay takes a remotely located camera and provides a live window to the world for viewers online - All year round! Did you know you can offer your clients the opportunity to open up their standard definition or HD network camera and provide live streaming for use as a marketing tool or to improve SEO options? Think about it this way - Take your favorite HD IP camera, put it in a Dotworkz enclosure, and it can be placed in any environment or location and ready for viewing any time of the year. Here are some seasonal examples of how you can interest your clients in this web traffic incentive for their business or service. Summer: Live streaming beach cameras are extremely hot this summer. From Miami to Maui resorts are enticing customers with live cameras to get them to hit the sand. These cameras are being used to broadcast surf conditions, help travelers plan a vacation and even allow web surfers to take a 5 minute mini vacation. Why not ride the latest and greatest technology wave by offering to install a Sony SNC-RH124 HD PTZ network camera and a Dotworkz D2 Heater Blower MVP with a pole mount kit and pass them onto the team at HD Relay for finishing touches. That is exactly what a local Maui integration group did. Enjoy an install day at the beach and don't forget to put sun screen on! Important note: These cameras become very popular very fast so be sure to plan properly and talk to HDrelay.com about what can be done to protect the network and the camera feed.
Winter: The 2010 Winter Olympics and the most popular Ski Cams - Park City, Killington, Steamboat, Squaw Valley, Las Vegas... (Vegas??? Hmm... ok) - any way, they provide skiers with a firsthand look at snow conditions before they leave their home. In Whistler HD Relay coupled an Axis Q1755 with a Dotworkz Ring of Fire to provide crystal clear HD imaging in winter temperatures. I would definitely check the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard resort before heading to their slopes. But hey, if any place needs integration of an IP camera and Dotworkz camera protection it would be Las Vegas. Spring: Flood monitoring and warning systems USGS provides valuable research and real-time information to the National Weather Service, emergency managers, and local residence during storms and dangerous situations. Their 13 cameras protected within various Dotworkz enclosures closely monitor flooding, high winds and wild fires, which are a hot topic during this time of the year. Fall: Back to School! Live cameras on college campuses can both help keep students safe while perspective students can scout out the campus prior to enrollment. UCLA did just this, and other campuses are starting to catch on. See live footage of Royce Hall on the Bruin Cam. Teachers can also take their class on a tour of MoMA in NYC without ever leaving their classroom. The industries taking advantage of live streaming are vast. The most obvious ones are resorts, campuses, amusement parks and emergency services. But there are also some not so ordinary ones like construction sites and Gatorland. Do any of your clients have an existing live IP camera just for fun? Let's offer them a way to make additional revenue in a flash with their live streaming cam. You can mention things like:
- Pay per click ad placements
- Banner ads within the camera frames
- Reselling live cameras feeds to third parties
- Using live cameras to replace traditional marketing
- Creating marketing campaigns based on popular camera page traffic
- Enhancing digital signage content
- Linking marketing agendas across other properties to improve brand awareness
- Help them turn an existing IP camera into a live web attraction!
How's that for Business Sense? I guarantee you will be your clients' go to team because you are ultimately impacting their profit center! |

Will's Tech Talk By Will Ferris
August 4th 2010 Extreme? Yes! But What About Class 1 Div 2 locations?Over the last 13 years Dotworkz has been asked about Class1 Division 2 rated install sites and what the best video hardware is for these sensitive environments. For those who have not had this request or don't know what Class 1 Div 2 means let me help define this. Background on Class 1 Div2 Many locations that handle large quantities of flammable liquids, dust and gases, such as oil rigs, industrial plants, and natural gas pumps, are prone to a risk of fire or explosion if something onsite causes an accidental spark or shorts out. In some cases the gas, ignitable vapor or dust is always present. Surrounding areas could have a dangerous concentration of flammable substances during process upsets, equipment deterioration between maintenance periods, or during an incident.
There are three types of hazardous conditions: Class I - gas and vapor, Class II - dust, and Class III - fibers and flyings. There are two kinds of hazardous conditions: Division 1 - normal, and Division 2 - abnormal. Refineries and chemical plants are then divided into areas of risk of release of gas, vapor or dust known as divisions or zones. Generally, in the security industry we know these locations as Class 1 Div 2. In order for new security hardware to be installed into these areas it must have the proper testing, certifications, and approvals to be rated. This rating is very difficult and extremely expensive to obtain. Many products will suggest they have the proper ratings but have not been independently tested or approved. Dotworkz Offers an Affordable Option The most common and cost effective hardware placement for these locations is to simply install the video hardware outside of the hazardous location zone. With today's high performance HD and low light megapixel network cameras it's often more effective to use the digital and optical zoom features to get bigger and more complete images from outside the classified zones. Currently Dotworkz is not offering Class 1 Div 2 rated housings, but since our housings are very well suited for all indoor and outdoor environmental conditions we have been a popular choice for protecting cameras and other sensitive equipment outside of the classification zones. Dotworkz is now offering our IP67 rated non-metallic housing option - the New S-Type - which is the perfect choice for installing the latest HD or megapixel static cameras required to view into a Class1 Div 2 classification zones from a distance. Class1 Div 2 intrinsically safe housings can cost over $12k per camera, while choosing a Dotworkz enclosure will only cost a fraction of that price, significantly lowering project costs. To see the new S-Type housing please ask us to set one up for you on our 24/7 Dotworkz Studio Cam. |

| Monthly Quiz How did Dotworkz come up with its name? 1) The Department of Transportation (DOT) folks love our housing products so much we named the company after them. 2) We wanted our IPO on the NASDAQ to use the trading symbol of DOTZ when we get big enough. 3) We are named after the process of IP addressing network based cameras i.e. 192.64.92.104. 4) All the above. Answer the question correctly and get a chance to win a $25.00 gift card from Starbucks. Please send your response to quiz@dotworkz.com with the subject "August - Quiz of the Month". You have until the end of the month to send us your entry, good luck!Past Winner! Congratulations to our last month quiz winner Rick Matoy from Global Security Integration! The correct answer to the What is the XERO? quiz was: 5) All the above.
As well as being a tasty CocaCola diet drink and a powerful group of Kiwi bankers, our XERO is a powerful, self contained "no bandwidth" edge recording NVR module that fits right inside our D-Series housings.
Way to go Rick! It seems like the team at Global Security Integration really does "security thru technology"!

Jon's No Monkey Wrenches By Jonathan Robles
August 4th 2010 Dotworkz Going Global2010 has been the high point of the last 4 years for Dotworkz and our shipping department. Just when I thought we couldn't possibly ship a higher volume, we've had an astounding 25% increase in orders. We have had continued increase in both domestic and international shipments. It is great to see that businesses all over the world are now noticing the innovative products we offer. So I will let you in on my process and mind set to get these products to you the integrator on time, in perfect working order, and ready to install! Have you ever thought about what happens after you authorize your favorite Distributor to send Dotworkz a purchase order? Well my specialty happens to be the part between receiving a purchase order and making sure that order makes shipment on time at the end of the day. When I see the orders in our system, it gets me ready for what's in store for my day. I have to think about all of the small details that make a difference in the customer's experience, including making sure all of the product manual packets have been printed, all of the small hardware is pre-packaged, and that we have the correct boxes and shipping materials in stock and ready to go. Once the products have been manufactured, my shipping team starts quality assurance. We have to inspect dozens of details quickly, such as checking the overall appearance of the product, guaranteeing each product has unique tags and identifications, ensuring all screws are in place and wiping the product clean from any dust due to manufacturing. I'm pretty much responsible for making sure the product arrives to the customer in perfect condition and is ready for immediate use, which I can tell is very important to you the Integrator since shipments are moving more and more by the day. After I've verified all orders by confirming all products on the PO have been completed and that all special instructions have been met, I get ready for packing. Our specially designed boxes ensure that our NVRs, Kits, D2, D3, S-Type enclosures and lenses arrive damage-free. Each box is checked and double checked for all necessary items - final product, hardware, user manual, etc. - so that the customer is completely ready for installation. And at the end of the day, when the UPS truck makes its way to our receiving area, all of our hard work is ready to be sent away to new deployments across the globe. I finally was able to take my long awaited trip to visit a few of the international landmarks we ship to everyday. Not only did I get to visit amazing cities in Europe, I was enthused every time I spotted D2 Enclosures in just about every city I visited during my travels. It's rewarding to see something I am apart of working in real life, outside of the Dotworkz facility. You may have even seen our enclosures and not even known it, such as the D2 Enclosures used in this year's Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. Who knows, maybe on your next vacation you will run into some of our products in various countries, such as United Kingdom, Australia, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, just to name a few. Maybe on your next cruise ship vacation you will notice our handy Dome Wizard Cleaning Kit being used to clean camera enclosures. |

August 4th 2010 Katie & Ricardo Stay Upbeat with Production Walk into our production area on any given day and you'll usually hear some upbeat music playing on the radio accompanied by the high pitched hum of machinery drilling and sawing. Today everyone is especially busy. Our first large order of our new S-Type static enclosures is being finalized and is nearly ready to ship. The assortment of S-Type Heater & Blowers, Ring of Fires, COOLDOME™s and Standard enclosures being sent out for future deployment has been a large feat for Dotworkz - we all love to see when our new baby make its way out into the big world of security. But thanks to our hardworking, efficient and innovative Production Team lead by Katie Murguia and Ricardo Villalva this achievement would not be possible.
Katie and Ricardo head our Manufacturing and Mechanical Assembly team. They might as well be referred to as the Dotworkz Dynamic Duo because their leadership is responsible for the seamless production of all of our enclosures. When the order for our S-Types came in Katie was ready to take charge of its completion. Katie overseas production and ensures all enclosure assemblies and chasses are ready for shipment. As Supervisor she is responsible for communicating with Jonathan, who works in our shipping department and receives the POs, as well as with Tiffany, our Production Manager who orders parts when they are needed. But she works most closely with Ricardo to split up the work load so that everyone is working quickly and efficiently to fulfill all orders. Three years ago, back when Dotworkz was a smaller operation, Katie took the initiative to grow her product knowledge to encompass all Dotworkz enclosures and assign duties to her colleagues for more efficient order fulfillment. She now knows each Dotworkz product in and out, and she is in charge of training and supervising the assembly team. When Ricardo joined Dotworkz about a year later, she showed him the ropes and he took on the role as the Prep Guy and COOLDOME™ unit and Custom Order specialist. Ricardo and his team work together to get all of the enclosures ready for environmental unit installations. This involves imputing lenses and faceplates, applying main seals, affixing screws, inserting mounting brackets, securing cable ports, and placing our Dotworkz labels on the outer shell. Once these are ready, it's time to install the inner environmental units. After this essential step is completed, the products are tested, sent to Quality Control department for precise spot checks, and then shipped out to our distributors or end users. They'll usually split the workload, but if Ricardo is working on a custom order, such as one that includes one of our 3G WiFi routers or XERO pre-installed, or installing COOLDOME™ units (which take a bit longer to prep) then Katie lets him concentrate on the project while her team works effectively toward fulfillment so that there isn't a break in production.
Ricardo is all about innovation. He works to make things easier, both for the customers and for his colleagues - always looking for ways to make something better than before. Katie thrives off of communication and punctual order fulfillment. And when everything is shipped out and ready for use she always feels confident with the end result, because she knows her team has worked their hardest to guarantee a quality, well built product. These two have never missed a beat, even if one of the Dynamic Duo is on vacation. They have completely streamlined the operation leading to great success for Dotworkz. Because of them our production staff has completed orders of all sizes in a timely fashion, all without any accidents. They have built a great work flow together and have boosted production and increased overall company morale. |
